This is Sam meeting Clifford at Storytime. As you can see we are being a little shy.

4th Thing- Photosharing
Flickr is AWESOME!! I love taking pictures and sharing them so learning about Flickr has been a lot of fun for me. I created my own Flickr account and uploaded some pictures from our library's digital camera to my account. This was very easy to do . The only confusing part of this assignment to me was when we were ask to upload images to our blog, it took me awhile to figure this part of the assignment out. But I was able to upload pictures and create a link to one of my pictures from the Flickr account to my blog. All in all I am pretty proud of myself for being able to figure it all out.
I think our library would benefit greatly by putting pictures on a Flickr account. I did find out out library does have an account but it does have some old pictures on it and none of the new recent events that we have been holding at the Library. Which is to bad because we don't get dressed up in Monkey suits and sing silly songs for nothing. We need people to see all the great things we are doing here and looking at all the great photos we have would be one way to do this.

3rd Thing-Learn about RSS
I did not know what RSS was. Turns out it is pretty easy to do and quite a useful tool. I had some trouble at first trying to figure out how to subscribe to certain blogs or websites but once I realized how simple it was I was able to breeze right through the lesson. I even found a super cool "LOST" blog to subscribe to so I can keep up with all the latest information about my favorite TV show.
Really I have been waiting for a tool like this, I have so many websites I visit on a regular basis, it will be so easy to keep track of everything now. I have my degree in Education and I use Bookmarks all the time to try to keep track of all of the really great education sites there are on the web. Using RSS is sort of like using Bookmarks except it lets you know if any new information is posted right away. It is fast, simple and easy.

2nd Thing - Learning about Library 2.0
The libraries of today are nothing like the libraries I remember using as a kid. I actually am pretty proud of our little library and how advanced it is compared to other libraries in our region. The librarians who work at this library are the very type of librarians who would be able to instill Library 2.0 to other staff and our patrons. Many of us just started working on 23 Things and the buzz and excitement created by just learning about Avatar and setting up a blog was so much fun to watch. We all are sharing our blog pages with each and are all excited to learn about the 23 things.
As for Library 2.0 our library already does provided some new activities for our patrons, for example we have a monthly game night at our library. I have heard staff talk about adding a blog to our website as well as wikis and other web tools, hopefully after we all complete 23 Things this will be a goal we will complete in the future.
On John Blyberg's blog he quoted Sarah Houghton's definition of L2, in it she mentions libraries having a "collaborative photo site". This was interesting to me since we have a character storytime, where someone dresses up as a favorite children's character. We read stories and have special crafts around the theme of the character. There are always so many cute kids who show up for the event, they will take pictures with the character and make a special crafts. We have a digital camera for use here at the library and I am able to get pictures of some of the kids and I have always wished there was a way to post all of the pictures for the community to see. Having a collaborative photo site would be one way to be able to share all of these priceless pictures with everyone. But a question I have about posting pictures is "Do we have to have parents sign a release form in order to post the pictures?" This would be such an nice way to promote the library but I feel it is something we could not accomplish if we would need to keep track of release forms from parents. Does anybody else post pictures and if you do, how do you do it?

1st Thing
Setting up the blog was actaully pretty easy, even you can do it Denise. I did like creating the Avatar, it is like playing paper dolls on the computer. I do wish the Avatar had more clothing options!! I also need more kids to add to my picture but it would only allow my to have the one. This is my first blog that I have created, after 23 things I will have to create my own personal blog.

1st Blog
This is my first blog, hope I don't mess it up. I am a mother of three beautiful children and I also am the Children's Librarian at the Public Library in our town. As a librarian I am kind-of embarrassed I have not blogged before but whatever, I'm lucky I got to take a shower before coming to work today.
